Restaurant Review:
Tableya

Bay Square
Dubai

Two extremely rich cuisines come together at new F&B concept, Tableya, that has opened its doors in bustling Bay Square, Business Bay. Mingling Indian delicacies with Middle Eastern treats, Chef Radi takes you on a culinary journey that leaves you intrigued, awestruck and happily full. The restaurant is a vast space that has been divided into two parts, one a Sheesha lounge of sorts and the other, a dining hall for those who don’t smoke and although humbly decorated, speaks volumes through its offerings! Here is everything Chef Radi got us to indulge in:

  • Kataifi Sphere Chaat
  • Paani Poori Shots With 5 Waters
  • Hanging Wada-Pops, Trio Chutney
  • Thepla Quesadilla, Cheesy Matar Nu Shaq, Khakhra Crisps
  • Turkish Lebnah Kebob With Gorkari Chili Sauce
  • Tempura Tabak Maaz, Rogan Josh Glaze, Mooli Akhrot Ki Chutney
  • Marina Beach Fried Fish, Plantain Chips And Curry Leaf Tartar
  • Butter Chicken Fatayer, Trio Chutney
  • Dabbawala 2017 (Butter Squash Bhaji, Kafirlime Pav, Amul Butter)
  • Lamb Shank Shuwa, Mixed Berries Pilaf, Smoked Desi-Ghee
  • Smoked Butter Dal
  • Anar And Wild Berries Raita

At the outset of the meal, a table top bicycle with some Zaatar biscuits and yoghurt dip and an amuse bouche in a Vintage Iron were plonked down in front of us. As we oohed and aahed over the instruments carrying these dishes, we finally took time out to sample them! A burst of flavors, literally, that last merely 30 seconds but leave a lasting impression, the Amuse bouche perfectly mixes the zests of Indian Chaat with the crispiness of Middle Eastern Kataifi and was plain brilliant! We enjoyed hearing about the inspirations behind the different dishes and the unique presentations and combinations that have gone in to create the final products. Some of the must try dishes according to us were the Hanging Wada Pops; another awesome dish that is bite sized but carries the goodness of an entire set of bites and add to that the way they’ve been presented. The Turkish Lebnah Kebobs are a treat for both Kebab and Labneh lovers and we couldn’t get enough of the appetizing circles. Mutton fans like one half of stamps and stubs will definitely relish the Tempura Tabak Maaz while the Butter chicken fatayer that comes equipped with a huge pair of scissors was spectacular. Honestly, we are not exaggerating when we use such terms to describe this particular item because it is actually that good. The fluffy, thick and butter Fatayer plays perfect host to the creamy butter chicken and every bite is a gleeful one until you reach the end of the item and despair.

Moving to the mains, the presentation of the first dish gained its inspiration from popular Harvard Case Study, the Dabbawalas, using which Chef Radi presents a simple, tasty Pav Bhaji in a tiffin box that pays homage to these tiffin delivery men. Out of all the mains we had, we enjoyed the Lamb Shank Shuwa the most. For this one, Chef Radi borrowed on his own food experiences during his stint in Oman and is quite passionate about the pilaf that he serves up with this dish at Tableya. We paired the food with refreshing Coconut Water and a chilled Mojito. To sum up, while Tableya offers a good selection of mains as well, it’s the appetizers that enchant!

Desserts

  • Kunafa Cheesecake In Rabdi
  • Coconut  Crème Brûlée In A Coconut Shell With Sorbet

So many courses down, yet dessert had to be had. And even if we resisted, Chef Radi wouldn’t have it. So we resigned ourselves to our fates. Moving on from the drama, we are glad that we said yes to whatever Chef had in mind because both the desserts were worth spending extra hours in the gym burning. The coconut Crème Brûlée was a nice change from the usual versions! But it was the Kunafa Cheesecake that captured our hearts and our minds! We at Stamps and Stubs cannot resist well-made, creamy Rabdi and when this bountiful confectionary arrived at our table in all its glory, we forgot all thoughts of being too full to function and began working on this dessert. We shall save you the reading and just say that this is indubitably a must have!

All in all, we had a fun session at Tableya, with all credit going to Chef Radi and his team’s hospitality, excitement, verbosity, stories and passion in creations!
