Restaurant Review:
Rajdhani

Karama
Dubai

Here’s a restaurant where you’re spoilt for choice yet you don’t have to actually spend any time choosing anything because Rajdhani has no menu! The vegetarian restaurant serves up a traditional Rajasthani “thaali,” a massive steel plate that they then fill up with a variety of gravy dishes, Indian breads, rice dishes, more vegetables and finally desserts. The thaali is unlimited and you can eat to your heart’s content even asking for multiple encores of whatever tickled your fancy the most. On arrival, we were welcomed with chilled glasses of Strawberry Sharbat and over the course of our meal we paired the food with refreshing drinks such as yoghurt based Lassis in different flavors, juices, sodas, tea and more. We opted for the Kesar (Saffron) Lassi and Shikanji (an Indian style lemonade). Here’s everything that our thaali was piled high with at our recent tasting session at the restaurant:

  • Salad
  • Green and Garlic chutney
  • Dahi Wada Kashmiri
  • Pizza Dhokla
  • Aloo Tikki
  • Daal Batti Churma
  • Rajasthani Jodhpuri Gatta
  • Aloo Til Singhdana
  • Chaman Palak Kofta
  • Paneer Maharani
  • Churi (a sweet treat)
  • Rajasthani Kadi
  • Gujarati Daal
  • Daal Banjara
  • Phulka, Puri, Puranpoli, Roti, Jawari Roti (assorted Indian breads)
  • Samosa ki Sabzi (every weekend they prepare something different which is technically a special of the day)
  • Darbari Khichdi
  • Tawa Pulao

Desserts
  • Moong dal halwa
  • Jalebi with Rabdi
  • Shrikhand

The dishes hail from different parts of India and Rajdhani’s thaali is indeed a feast for the senses! Some of our favorites from everything we had were the Pizza Dhokla for its novelty, the Dahi Wada Kashmiri for its unique flavors, the Samose ki Sabzi again for its newness, the Paneer and Aloo dishes because these are some things you can always count on according to us and the desserts! You absolutely cannot go wrong with the Jalebi and Rabdi combination and it made for a fitting end to the meal and one that we had repeats of!

The service at Rajdhani is great, the servers are always on alert and ready to refill your plates at the first sign of even slight emptiness. With food that is flavorful and substantial and prices that are quite low, Rajdhani will not disappoint. A word of advice though; let the Thaali at Rajdhani be your only meal on the day you’re going to be eating there!
