Restaurant Review:
Mitts & Trays

City Walk, Phase 2 Dubai

City Walk is one of our favorite places to hang out at and the new phase even more so! And why wouldn’t it be, what with the lovely selection of restaurants and shops spanning the area. We recently had a tasting at Mitts and Trays, a friendly and bright eatery that began as a home bakery and thus commits itself to serving up home style, wholesome food in an elegant and comfortable setting. Here is everything we had at our recent tasting:
Starters & salads
(Prior to the meal you are served the brilliant milk bread with basil butter, honestly irresistible stuff)

  • M&T Batata Bravas: Potato Drizzled With Hot Demi-Glace, Cheese Sauce And Sour Cream, Topped With Scallions And Jalapeno Slices
  • M&T Burrata: A Soft Burrata Ball With Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes, Fresh Figs, Drizzled With Their Own Pomegranate Balsamic Dressing
  • Kale & Walnut Salad: Baby Kale, Arugula, Maple Candied Walnuts, Dried Cranberries, Crumbled Feta Cheese And Drizzled With A Balsamic Fig Dressing

Fresh fresh fresh is the first thing that came to mind as we ate our way through the Burrata and Kale salad! In addition, the respective dressings and accompaniments just took these dishes to another level. As for the Bravas, we’ve had Bravas at other restaurants but none have impressed us as much as the M&T version did. Overall, we couldn’t have asked for better dishes to start the meal with, although going by how great these were, we’re definitely coming back to try other items off this list.
Mains
  • Gnocchi Pomodoro: Potato Pillow Coated With A Rich Herbed Tomato Sauce Topped With Melting Mozzarella Cherries
  • M&T Sliders: Southern Style Chicken Sliders With Chipotle Mayo And Crispy Onion Rings
  • Risotto Allo Zafferano: Classic Saffron Risotto
  • Paella De Valencia: Omani Lobster, Tiger Prawns And Vongole Clams, All Cooked With Saffron Infused Spanish Rice

When we spotted Paella on the menu, we knew we were having it, because for one, we love the dish, and secondly, it isn’t one that we have seen on many menus across Dubai. And the very few that we have had, haven’t been pleasing. Long story short, we loved the Paella at Mitts & Trays and the generous helping of seafood atop the dish got it extra cool points. Close contenders for winners in the mains were the Gnocchi and the Risotto while the sliders, albeit delectable, finish last. The portions are sizeable so bring an appetite and pace yourselves when eating at Mitts & Trays. We paired the food with some refreshing Lemonade and mint and Passion Fruit and Ginger ale drinks.
Dessert
  • Rose & Pistachio Cake
  • Weed: Chocolate Sponge With Digestive Butter Cream And Topped With Swiss Meringue
  • Strawberry Cheesecake

Founder Amna herself has created some of the desserts available at M&T and we must mention that each and every sweet treat is pretty as a picture. Honestly out of the three we devoured it is a task to pick our favorite because while they were all unique in presentation, they had one thing in common, they were all lip-smacking! Weed was addictive, pun intended, and we only put down our spoons when taking bites out of the other desserts.

M&T is an endearingly stylish restaurant in the heart of the bustling, relatively new phase of City Walk. Finding its ideal dwelling amidst the designer stores and elegant restaurants that flank it, M&T is a restaurant that we intend to frequent, not just for its fantastic food but even more so for the welcoming ambiance and wholesome, homely feeling that enveloped us during our time at the eatery.
