Restaurant Review:
Crumbs Elysse

Motor City
Dubai

The newly opened Ribbon at Motor City provides the ideal luxurious dwelling for a variety of retail and food and beverage outlets. One among them is Crumbs Elysee, a restaurant and café that is a blend between a French bistro and a Levantine café! Essentially, you can find elegant cakes and pastries on the menu that also shares space with Levant based delicacies such as Hummus, Mezze and the other usual suspects. The multi-storeyed Crumbs Elysee also features upper decks for those who want to smoke some Shisha and a plethora of board games to enjoy with loved ones. Warm lighting shines on the beautiful décor of the restaurant that alternates between rustic and traditional with contemporary touches. We sure were blown away by the interiors when we visited the restaurant recently for an Iftar preview.

What we ate

For Iftar, Crumbs presents a buffet that comprises of the usual Middle Eastern fare interspersed with a few international offerings. So, you can choose from a selection of salads including Tabbouleh, Fattoush, Caeser’s salad, plain salads that are perched alongside Hummus, Baba Ghanoush and more.  In the mains, you can expect a selection of fish, hot mezze filled with cheese and Kibbeh, Mix Grill, vegetarian carbonara pasta, an Indian lamb dish and the traditional Ouzi among others.

To be very honest, the selection of dishes were great but the taste fell slightly short of expectations. Our table unanimously voted for the shrimp and vegetable curry and the Mix Grill as our favorites in the lot. Crumbs also serves traditional Ramadan drinks like Qamardeen and Jallab which we sampled but we also paired our food with some fresh juices namely Kiwi, Pomegranate, Lemon Mint and Avocado. These were refreshing and delicious!

Finally, desserts. As mentioned earlier, Crumbs carries an assortment of cakes, pastries and some of these were part of the Iftar menu. In addition, Middle Eastern desserts like the Umm Ali and cheesy Kunafa with syrup were also part of the meal. Overall, desserts were an enjoyable affair.

To sum up, the ambiance and service at Crumbs Elysee were brilliant although the food could use a little improvement. Nevertheless, we intend to return to the restaurant to try out the rest of the menu!
