Restaurant Review:
Crafted Blends

University City
Sharjah

At the risk of sounding repetitive, we feel like we have to reiterate that Sharjah is swiftly becoming home to some of the coolest restaurant concepts in the UAE! And coincidentally, most of them are located in close proximity with each other near the sprawling University City. Another one that caught our fancy is Crafted Blends, a charming, bright and quirky new restaurant/café with an equally cool menu! One of us who studied at the American University of Sharjah couldn’t help feeling slightly jealous of current students at University City as they have a plethora of really cool food spots situated so close to their Alma Maters! Coming back to Crafted Blends, the interiors of the bright space really floored us and the novelty of items on the menu got us excited as we pored over it. Here’s everything we had at our recent tasting:

Appetizers
  • Crusted Chicken Stack: Chicken Fingers Marinated With BBQ Seasoning Crumbled With Cornflakes And Served With A Homemade Sauce
  • Japanese Cheese Balls: Coarsely Grated Cheddar, Monterey Jack Cheese, Jalapenos, Hot Sauce Wrapped In Nori Sheets

Crafted Blends Specials
  • Mac ‘N’ Cheese: Sharp Cheddar And Parmesan Cheese Combined With Pasta
  • Fusion Tacos
  • Chicken Tacos: Middle Eastern Marinated Chicken, Sliced Dill Pickle, Cheddar Cheese, Jalapeno, Flour Tortillas Served With Harissa

Burgers/Sliders
  • Crispy Chicken Slider: Crispy Fried Chicken, Cheddar Cheese, Pickle, Lettuce, Tomato, Tangy Mustard Mayo Sauce
  • Buffalo Chicken Slider: Crispy Fried Chicken Tossed In Hot Buffalo Sauce, Cheddar Cheese, Coleslaw With Cool Ranch
  • Sweet & Spicy Chicken Slider: Crispy Fried Chicken Tossed In Their Sweet And Spicy Sauce, Cheddar Cheese, Jalapeno With Lettuce

That the combinations were interesting is evident! The Japanese Cheese Balls were the winners for us in the appetizers and blended the deliciousness of Jalapeno cheese balls with Japanese flavors! The crusted chicken stack was tasty as well but the tacos fell slightly short of expectation and were on the drier side with understated flavors. The mac ‘n’ cheese was a nice treat and you can customize yours with add ons like chicken and shrimp. We rank the sliders (you can also order them as burgers if you’d like) as follows: Buffalo chicken in first place, the sweet and spicy a close second and in last place the crispy chicken slider. Overall, we enjoyed the uniquely piquant savory dishes offered at Crafted Blends.

Dessert & Drinks
  • Lemon Refresher
  • Rose Lemonade
  • Flat White
  • Saffron Milk Cake
  • Homemade Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies

Simply put, dessert was delightful! The fluffy, spongy milk cake topped off with a saffron syrup was the best way to end the meal. We alternated between bites of the milk cake and the dark chocolate chip cookies which were warm and fresh and it was unanimous; we couldn’t have asked for a better end to this meal.

In conclusion, Crafted Blends is a cozy, serene and very cool restaurant that we think we’d take the trouble to go to Sharjah for!
