Restaurant Review:
Chopsuey

Beach Park Plaza

Chop Suey has been named after the food item that is believed to have originated in California and not China. Apparently, in their attempt to sell Chinese food to the Westerners created Chop Suey out of necessity as they lacked many of the ingredients required to create traditional Chinese food. Chop Suey means mixed pieces and the restaurant located in Jumeirah serves up a variety of Chinese delicacies in addition to their version of the Chop Suey. We loved the warm, welcoming and vivacious décor and irresistible aromas wafting out of the kitchen. Here’s everything we had at our tasting:

  • Steamed and Pan fried dim sum
  • BBQ chicken buns
  • Pan fried crispy chicken dumpling

If you are a dim sum fan you must try the ones at Chop Suey! The BBQ buns are delicious and the pan fried chicken dumpling was quite the treat as well.

Food

  • Szechuan chicken: Crispy hot, garlic chicken
  • Sweet and sour chicken
  • Vegetable fried rice Yong Chow: Fried rice with mixed vegetables, spring onions and egg
  • Wok-fried Singapore egg noodles with vegetables
  • Chicken Chop Suey

The mains were decent, not the best we’ve had nevertheless quite appetizing. We did enjoy the wok-fried noodles and the Chop Suey which arrived in a massive bowl, piled high with chicken and vegetables, quite a filling and enjoyable dish.

Drinks

Orange juice
Ginger and lemongrass
Mint lemonade
Vanilla milkshake

Dessert

  • Sesame toffee banana with ice cream

After the meal we just had, dessert was a must but then again, we deem dessert necessary after any meal! Although this wouldn’t have been our first choice, the sesame toffee banana with ice cream came highly recommended by the restaurant manager and we are glad he did because we got to try something unique.

Overall, Chop Suey is a nice, friendly restaurant that serves up a nice variety of Chinese food and the chance to try the Dubai version of the famous ‘Chop Suey.’
