Restaurant Review:
Awani

Dubai Mall
Dubai

Levantine or Mediterranean Cuisine is a plethora of colors, flavors and more and Awani, The taste of Levant, aims to bring these very characteristics of the cuisine to the plates of discerning diners in the UAE. Awani is another restaurant that we have first visited at The Beach and quite liked, what with the striking view of the vista and hustle and bustle of The Beach, Awani is just one of those places that you can enjoy a relaxing time at with family or friends. We were recently invited to the brand’s new outlet at The Dubai Mall and we have to start off by saying that the décor of this particular branch blew us away even more! High ceilings covered in greenery, lavish seating spaces in an overall enormous setting with a terrace looking out to the Burj Khalifa and the fountains. We were recently invited to the new outlet for a tasting and here’s everything we had:

  • Hummus: Boiled chickpeas paste mixed with tahini, olive oil and lemon juice.
  • Fattoush: Roasted Arabic bread with mixed greens, vegetables and pomegranate molasses.
  • Grilled Halloumi
  • Mixed Cheese: Freshly made dough stuffed with mixed cheese, cooked in a wood fire oven
  • Shish Tawooq: Juicy, marinated chicken cubes chargrilled, served with grilled vegetables on the side.

Awani serves up world-class favorites in addition to Middle Eastern classics, and needless to say, some traditional Hummus and Fattoush were up first for us! We loved the appetizers including the Halloumi. With regard to the mains, there were sandwiches we wanted but that they’d run out of, but our eventual choices were appetizing as well. The mixed cheese was a delightful mix including Kachkaval and Mozzarella cheeses and the Shish Tawook was decent.

Drinks & Dessert

  • Vanilla Milkshake
  • Ghazal Al Banat with Ice Cream: Arabic Ice Cream topped with Cotton Candy

With the kind of hot days we have now and that are in store for us, the drinks at Awani are lifesavers. We relished chilled glasses of milkshakes that went perfectly with the food. And yes, we had room for dessert regardless of the milkshake! The Ghazal is a lovely mix of powdery cotton candy that melts with every bite of fresh, creamy ice cream you take. Definitely one we’d recommend!

On the whole, Awani’s décor, service and interesting menu (which we found had many more options than what we initially used find at the one at The Beach) impressed us and we give the new outlet a Yay!
