Restaurant Review:
Ashiana

Sheration Dubai Creek
Baniyas, Dubai

One of Dubai’s longstanding residents that opened its doors in 1978 as one of the first five star hotels in the city, the graceful Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers, is where one of our recent tastings took us. With the Holy Month of Ramadan upon us, the nights after the fasts have been broken are filled with warmth, togetherness and delicious Iftar gatherings. One such Iftar preview that we attended right before the commencement of Ramadan was at Ashiana, the refined Indian restaurant located within the Sheraton Dubai Creek. Ashiana is the Hindi word for ‘home’ and the restaurant aims to provide an experience that is wholesome and will either remind you of the comfort Indian food you used to eat back home or create new experiences! Here is everything that was part of the Iftar menu:

Starters

  • Tandoori Malai Chicken Tikka
  • Bharwan Seekh Kabab
  • Machili Tikka (Fish)
  • Achari Paneer Tikka (Veg)
  • Tandoori Broccoli (Veg)
  • Tandoori Subz Seekhpa (Veg)

Top notch presentation and the Kababs we especially enjoyed from this lot were the Tandoori Malai Chicken Tikka, the Seekh Kabab filled with cream cheese and mozzarella and the Achari Paneer Tikka.

Salads

  • Chicken Tikka Salad
  • Channa Chaat
  • Tandoori Gobi
  • Carrot & Coconut Salad
  • Kachumber Salad
  • Crispy Potato Salad

The Channa Chaat is a must have from this selection and the chicken tikka salad comes a close second. The crispy potato salad was a tad too spicy for one of us so consider this a warning if you don’t eat much spice either.

Mains

  • Chicken Achari
  • Saag Mutton
  • Macchi Taar Korma
  • Malai Subz Korma (Veg)
  • Dal Tamatar Tadka (Veg)
  • Kadhai Paneer (Veg)
  • Jeera Rice
  • Assorted Indian breads

The Paneer and the Saag Mutton were our top picks from the mains. Ensure that your assorted bread selection includes the garlic naan because that is one you do not want to miss! We paired the food with a refreshing lime and cucumber based mocktail and chilled Mango Lassi; the perfect complements for piquant Indian food!

Desserts

  • Duet of Gajjar ka Halwa (Carrot based confection) and Malai Kulfi (Frozen milky dessert similar to ice cream)

Finally, the most awaited part of the meal and with good reason! When we spotted this on the menu, our eyes widened because these two popular sweets make for a killer combination and we were quite excited to see the treatment they received at Ashiana. Well we can safely say that be it the plating or the taste, this dessert passed with flying colors! Warm Halwa amalgamated with chilled, creamy Kulfi and every bite had us squealing with delight. A true winner!

Ashiana also features live entertainment in the form of singers and musicians so you will be enjoying your meal with some eminent melodies being performed in the background. Moving away from the Iftar review, we feel like we must thank the restaurant and its team for making our visit even more memorable with a special gesture. The weekend we visited the restaurant, one half of stamps and stubs had just celebrated their birthday a day or two earlier, and despite us not even mentioning this, Ashiana surprised us with cake and serenaded the person as well! Nicely done guys.

Overall, Ashiana is a well-designed, classy restaurant with some decent food, lovely ambiance and pleasant service!
